Designed to help unleash students’ creativity throughout their school day, the Everyone Can Create series of iBooks teaches students to explore and develop ideas through drawing, music, video and photos on iPad. This week, we’re looking at some of the features and activities inside the Everyone Can Create: Music On iPad guide.
What is Everyone Can Create?
The Everyone Can Create series aims to give beginners and experienced students alike the opportunity to learn creative skills across different media, and join the next generation of innovators, artists and creators. By unleashing the creativity of students through interactive exercises, they’ll learn how to develop and communicate ideas, become better problem solvers and discover new ways they can leave their mark on the world.
But Everyone Can Create isn’t only for creative subjects, each guide is full of tips for integrating iPad and media-rich resources into different subject areas. And, with the DFE and Ofsted now looking to integrate creativity back into the classroom by only giving an ‘outstanding’ grade to schools promoting creative and technical subjects, making creative resources for different subject areas is going to be more important than ever.
Music On iPad
The Everyone Can Create: Music On iPad guideaims to give students the confidence and skills required to start writing and recording their own music, using the incredible range of built-in instruments on the GarageBand app for iPad. The journey into creative music making is illustrated by examples and advice from none other than Justin Timberlake!
What’s in the guide?
This guide will teach students to use Live Loops, learn how to construct songs, make beats, use chords and melodic instruments, write and record lyrics, and take a dive into production. Through these activities, students will create a range of different musical recordings, including an original song, an original rap and more. By encouraging students to try different musical styles, they’ll be able to express their creative confidence in new ways and reveal undiscovered abilities.
With clear language and handy illustrations, this guide is accessible to learners of all ages and abilities, and features an interactive gallery of images giving a step-by-step guide to achieving musical mastery. One great feature about the guide is how quick and easy it is to create great sounding music. The Live Loops activity gets everyone creating professional-sounding music within seconds, whatever their skill or experience level. This then leads straight into an activity that challenges you to recreate and then remix Justin Timberlake's Can't Stop the Feeling!.
The core techniques in this guide will help students create music that can be used to support a wide range of activities, from setting mood to inspire creative writing to creating a drum beat to play instruments along to. Students can also use their creations in other media, creating background music or highlighting a dramatic moment in video. When this is combined with the teaching resources in the Everyone Can Create: Teacher Guide, incorporating the activities and projects into lessons becomes much easier.
The Teacher Guide
The Everyone Can Create: Teacher Guide is an accompaniment to the books in the Everyone Can Create series, which contains no less than 60 examples of how the activities in the Music On iPad guide can be used to support lessons across different subject areas such as maths, literacy, history, science and coding.
